Home and School Safety Program
Safe Kids Philippines Home and School Safety Program came about through the support of Johnson & Johnson.
In 2005 to 2006, SKP focused on research from three major hospitals and the local civil registries in three cities to gather mortality and morbidity data on unintentional injuries of children. Focus group discussions (FGD) were also conducted to collect qualitative data from members of the community.
Results from this research indicated that most unintentional injuries to children happen in the home; the next leading cause of injury was from road traffic. As such, SKP aims to raise awareness about potential home safety hazards and educate children and their families on simple preventive measures to minimize injury that result from falls, drowning, burns and poisoning. The program means to empower children to be responsible for their own safety at home.
The Home and School Safety module is being piloted in the school year 2007-08.
