Walk This Way Program

Walk This Way, a joint global project of Safe Kids and program sponsor FedEx Express, was created to teach safe behavior to motorists and child pedestrians and create safer and more walkable communities.  It brings together parents, teachers, FedEx employee volunteers and safety advocates to teach students safe pedestrian behavior, encourage motorist awareness of child pedestrian safety and provide long-term environmental improvements to make neighborhoods and school zones for pedestrians safe.  The program has since spread to 135 cities in three continents.

Walk This Way started as a pedestrian safety education program for students, parents and the public.  Activities are designed to educate children about road safety by increasing knowledge, changing behavior, making environmental assessments and improvements, and coordinating events to raise awareness and promote health, such as International Walk to School Day in October.  Walk This Way uses the following tools to evaluate program activities: Pre Test and Post Test, “Walkability” Checklist and the Pedestrian Behavioral Survey..  Other program components include distribution of pedestrian safety equipment, driver safety education and advocating for the passage of effective legislation for a safe walking environment.

Walk This Way is the primary program of Safe Kids Philippines as it started its operations in 2004 and has since reached more than 35,000 children in more than 50 schools in three cities.
